At Professor Flitwick's suggestion, the Charms Club will be practising the Patronus Charm at our next meeting on Saturday. Any non-members wishing to learn the spell are most welcome as well.

Questions can be directed at either myself or Professor Flitwick, and I might suggest The Dark Arts Outsmarted by Quentin Trimble for anyone wishing to read up on the matter.

WARDED TO DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY.

I just need to figure out a way to avoid having to cast one myself. Someone is sure to recognise it.
WARDED TO NEVILLE.
We may have a problem.
WARDED TO HANNAH.
Happy birthday! I hope you don't mind me leaving your gift on top of your trunk. I wanted to be on time for breakfast and I figured it would be annoying for you to carry around all day.
WARDED TO LISA.
How are you feeling?

Uh-oh. What's happened?

The Head Boy has asked my assistance as Charms Club president in researching the Patronus Charm. He is looking for a way to identify the culprits based on their Patronus.

I figure it's better if we don't unnecessarily alarm anyone and I just keep an eye on the proceedings.

Oh. Wow.

Er, that's very...Slytherin of him.

You're right. No-one should make a big impression, in that case, and you'd definitely be better off overseeing things.

But--if you are asked to try, maybe you should think of a really horrible memory. That sounds awful, I know, but when we first started practicing, I could barely produce one on a good memory.

I certainly wouldn't discount his intelligence. It's fortunate that we know about it, even if the research doesn't go anywhere.

Wouldn't it be suspicious if I were unable to at least produce a wisp?

Yes. It's good he came to you -- you must've earned his trust. I know you were nervous about things, Susan, but you've helped us out loads and I really appreciate it.

Will you tell the others? In case someone goes?

Maybe. I could barely produce that much when I first started, but I think I was the only one and I'm not president of Charms Club. Could you produce only a wisp, if you had to?

Perhaps. I- I worry about how long I will be able to keep it up.

I doubt even Ernie would be so stupid as to use his Patronus in public now.

I'm not sure if it would work, but I can practice in advance. Which is somewhat ironic if you consider how long it took us to master the spell.

Is it very stressful? Would you like to talk about it? I'm not a bad listener, although I'm not sure how much I'll help.

Well, yeah. That's a good point.

I think it's worth practicing to...un-practice. Funny, isn't it? Think of vaguely happy thoughts.

Fortunately not. The general blur of classes and IS patrols and Charms Club is about busy enough for me.

The Dementor incident has had quite the impact, it seems.

It has. I cannot believe one made its way inside of the castle. It could have truly hurt or killed a great number of students had it not been immediately detained.

Hey Susan, would non-members of Charms club be able to come to work on it as well? A couple of my friends and I have expressed interest.

Oh, Susan, thank you! I don't mind at all, of course, actually I love it! Just when I was running low on chocolate, too.

And it's not a good time to be running low on chocolate, is it? That's a great idea about the Charms Club, Susan, and I know you'll find a way to not cast a Patronus. Maybe we can go to the practise room and try to not cast them? Wouldn't that be funny, that we spent so much time in there trying to learn them and now we're trying to unlearn them? Or at least fake that we haven't learned them.

I don't think there's such a thing as too much chocolate these days.

That sounds like a good idea. Between the two of us hopefully we'll be able to figure something out.

Yeah, hungry thoughts do not a good Patronus make. although we're better fed lately thanks to

Still, on the plus side it would be highly suspicious if any of us could manage to produce a corporal Patronus on our (supposed) first try so no one would be surprised if Susan can't do it.

Hannah and I are going to practice casting it unsuccessfully. If all else fails, I suppose I can ask Professor Flitwick if he'll have me help in assisting others, rather than casting it.

That might present a problem if you're going to be practicing it. I think, no one is going to be able to expect you to actually produce one though, so you should be able to get away with letting Professor Flitwick do most of the demonstrations.
